FOD AWARENESS Area (Blue Zone)
Promoting a Culture of FOD Prevention
Area Definition
The FOD AWARENESS area includes offices, reception areas, classrooms, briefing rooms, and other administrative or support areas. While these areas are not directly involved in aircraft maintenance, a strong awareness of FOD prevention is essential for all personnel and visitors.
The focus here is on education and preventing the introduction of potential FOD into the facility.
General Rules & Best Practices
- Maintain Cleanliness: Keep desks, floors, and common areas tidy and free of clutter. Paper clips, staples, pens, and other small office supplies are potential FOD.
- Secure Waste: Use designated bins for all trash. Ensure bins are not overflowing.
- Visitor Control: All visitors must be escorted when moving outside the Blue Zone. Brief visitors on basic FOD prevention principles upon arrival.
- FOD Signage: Be aware of and follow all posted FOD prevention signage throughout the facility.
- Report Observations: If you observe any potential FOD hazard anywhere in the facility, report it to a supervisor or maintenance personnel immediately. Do not assume someone else will handle it.
Personal Responsibility
- Be Mindful: Understand that even small items from an office can become a serious hazard if they find their way into a maintenance area.
- Participate in Training: Actively participate in all required FOD prevention training sessions.
- Promote a Safety Culture: FOD prevention is everyone’s responsibility. Encourage colleagues to follow best practices and lead by example.
